These thermo-expandable microspheres are a unique SEKISUI technology that we based on acrylonitrile copolymer. These tiny cells can expand more than 30 to 100 times in size or 50% to 80% in volume when subjected to heat. This creates lightweight, cost-saving foams, textures and coatings. The cells’ expansion and subsequent contraction create space. This results in a less-dense material that industries can use for cushion or texture, to dampen vibrations, to improve flexibility, to prevent slipping and warping, to protectively seal or coat, and for heat insulation. We based this versatile product line on polyvinyl acetal resin technology. Overall, we divide these products into two families: polyvinyl butyral (S-LEC B) and polyvinyl acetoacetal (S-LEC K). Industries use S-LEC B/K resins in many applications because of their high compatibility with a range of chemical structures.
